For hundreds of years, Birkenstock has had a rich history in shoemaking. Founded in a small German village in the late 1700s, Birkenstock went on to become a pioneer in flexible arch support at the turn of the 20th century, having invented the first sole shaped to the foot a few years prior. Eventually, the Birkenstock sandal was born, subsequently exported to America, and the rest is history. The brand has continued to grow rapidly since the '70s and '80s to the ubiquitous name it is today, and Birkenstock sandals are now a staple choice of footwear amongst people from all walks of life.
